Grilled or Roasted Corn / Indian Style Corn on the Cob / Bhutta

Those rainy days, when you step out of the shuttle just right infront of the lady who would be roasting corn and its hard to resist and not give up on having those warm corns...and then bitting into the corn kernels while you walk back to the apartment...

That was the scene some 10 years back when I was working and not married...These days the scenes have changed. Its like buying the corn and getting it grilled at home and enjoying it at the comfort of home while you watch rain pouring down, from the window. Life changes but the tastes or the preference to certain foods hardly changes.

Last rainy season in Pune, we had been totally enjoying the bhutta or Corn on the cob quite often, that my lil one also started calling out 'bhutta' wherever he used to see it. He loves it. Its super hot here but looking at this post, which was drafted a year back and never made it to the blog made me realize its raining in pune, where this pic was taken. Those little hands that you see going to grab a corn is not that plump any more. I don't understand why these kids have to grow up so fast.

This is the perfect season to have them. When its raining...the weather would be chill...and with the least effort you get to make it at home. Just Perfect. Or if you stay in a place where it is summer then consider grilling it while you do some barbecue. These are perfect to go with some grilled non veg too.

Ingredients
  1. 3 corn, peeled
  2. 1 Lime, cut into half
  3. 1 tsp of salt
  4. 3/4 tsp of chilly powder
Method
  • In a bowl, mix the salt and chilly powder. Keep it aside.
  • Take a peeled corn and place it on the stove with the flame ranging between medium and high. Using a tong, keep rotating and moving the corn frequently so that they get roasted evenly. Most of the corn kernels would pop and get charred. When they look almost evenly done. remove it from the flame.
  • Dip one half of lime in the salt and chilly mixture. Squeeze and simultaneously rub the lime over the roasted corn.
  • Serve it warm.
Tips
  1. Make sure you hold the corn with tongs while roasting, to avoid any burns.
  2. Do rotate the corn while roasting, so that the corn to get roasted evenly.

  3. Corn is definitely the best pleasure of winter... here also during the winters, it is so readily available... we eat it at home as well as from out, even though it is like paying under the nose while getting it at the fair... hehe... Kids do grow up very fast, faster than we can imagine... :(

  4. Beautiful! The corn, the pictures, the once chubby little hand. Why did you wait to put this out? And yes, I ask myself too, everyday, why do they grow so fast?
